My first week in Oslo

What happened that first week where I was unable to reach you??

As you know Mum and I left early Monday morning…at the airport we met with Hanne-Marie and her mum..We also met two other women, Karen and Mie that was going to, they are half way through their treatment.
We arrived at the hotel at 9.30 in the morning, and got our room. It is the size of a shoebox!! But it is cosy…
We met yet another danish woman so we are five danish patients now.

I went for my first treatment that afternoon and started by talking to a nurse. She told me about the treatment and the secondary effects. They normally start within the second or third week, and it ranges from tiredness, to soreness or second degree burn. She told me to drink a lot and get plenty of rest, and they can help me with the other things.
Then I got my first treatment. They drew a lot of lines on me, put some cameras on me and told me not to move and left the room. The treatment took about 6 minutes, the machine buzzed a lot but it didn’t hurt.

Then we went back to hotel and unpacked.
At the reception we got some coloured plastic bracelets. They indicate that we are allowed meals on the hotel.
The food is very good and I get four meals a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner and light meal before bed. (Mum gets three)
We get a lot of salad, vegetables, fish, bread and meat, everything is very healthy, but then again they are feeding sick people!!
Mum and I spend the first two days getting to know the hotel and the other danish women. They are really sweet and gives us a lot of tips and advice about everything.

Wednesday after lunch we decided to take the tram down town and go shopping.
Mum bought Norwegian sweaters for Sarah and Thea. I bought a book and some earrings for Sarah and postcards to send.
We spend a couple of hours and then went home.
Thursday we walked to a shopping mall. It took two hours back and forth, because out it was downhill, but home it was up!! Mum was really proud of me that I did it!!

My treatment is usually in the morning - so we get up early!! - and then get home and relax afterwards.
I am not allowed company at the radiation room so mum and AnnetteBear is waiting outside getting served coffee and waffles!!
Mum insists on going with me everyday, and it is kind of nice even though I told her she didn’t have to.
We mostly talk with the others at meals, we haven’t been able to do stuff together cause our treatments are at different times.
We spend a lot of time at our room, talking and reading and playing pcgames.
The last meal of the day I bring to the room, it is waffles, bread and fruit, and then mum and I share.
Coffee, tea, chokolate and juice and milk is free all day.

I’ve read the three first books of the Spiderwick chronicles. They are children’s books but they are all about kids discovering fairies and goblins so I love them. And they got a hero named Jared!!

One thing that surprises me is how many children there are at the hotel as patients. It is not only cancer patients here, because the ordinary hospital is right across the street..
But there are small children and that is kind of hard on me…..
There are 81 rooms and they are all full, so there are a lot of people all the time.

We had to leave the room Friday, but we left our luggage at the hotel. We were home at eight in the evening ad dad picked us up.

I hope the internet works next week, because I miss all of you;)

It looks pretty much the machine they put me in;)

It's really good to hear from you hon!

I'm pleased everything is going well and you and your Mum are getting to visit places. Also it's nice that you've met others who are going through the same as you. I think it helps to talk to others.

Make sure you get plenty of rest sweetie, you are doing fantastic.
